Grey Rat Snake

Here is a new wild neighbor that I met today :)  I was taking a walk-about on Ruffner Mountain this afternoon, enjoying the incredibly cool air.   As I approached a nearby wetlands area, I met this young Grey Rat Snake crossing the footpath.  As I learned later is typical, he / she  ‘froze’ in defense.

I was respectfully cautious, took a couple of pictures and went on my way. As I left the wetland area, returning to the previously traveled footpath, I noted he / she had moved on.  NOTE: Gray Rat Snakes are not venomous.
