Who are you, and Why are you here

During a recent afternoon stroll around East Lake Park,  I encountered this fearless Mama-duck.  She waddled right up to me and gave me a look that said: ‘Who are you, and Why are you here?!

She gave me a quick reminder about respecting the space and safety of others, especially the very young.  And helped me shift my perspective to more fully understand the park is her, and her babies,’ home.

Her non-verbal communication immediately changed my experience from one of entitlement to one of a visitor in someone’s home.  I walked more slowly,  approached  her family members more slowly, and just stood-still more often to appreciate the beautiful and interesting birds that call East Lake Park home.

Thanks Mama-duck!
