Lion Tree

As the story goes,  a storm damaged this large tree located in South East Lake (Birmingham), Alabama.

Neighbors wanted the remaining trunk and roots removed.

Instead,  the owner commissioned a wood-sculptor to create a most unique statue.

  1. I watched this from scratch! I would drive by and sit at the curb (remember a white Volvo) and watch the progress in amazement. Such a great idea! I just had a tree larger than that one taken down in my yard and it makes me sick that I didn’t have the creativity to think to do this to my tree. Wonderful addition to the neighborhood!! Very well done!

  2. By the way, who was the sculptor? I still have a stump from the tree I took down in my yard and was wondering if it could be make into a (very) large planter?? I’d love the sculptor’s contact info.
